The region IV tournament for men’s amateur teams took place in Sacramento during the weekend of May 20th through 22nd, and what I saw there as an assessor has prompted this little brooding about opinions in the game, and which ones we should listen to. It prompted me to reflect on people whose opinions about my refereeing caused me to change my ways, or whose observations taught me something new about the game or about the Art of Refereeing. But as important as WHAT I was told, is WHEN I was told it. And in the tournament last week, there were opinions-a-plenty, many of them absurd, and most of them, whether sound or senseless, delivered at the wrong time. And for that, we have to indict a couple of referees….
